Margaret Thatcher: Rhetorical Analysis Final Essay

"In his lifetimes, Ronald Reagan was such a cheerful and invigorating presence" words of Margaret Thatcher on June 11,2004 in honor of former United States president  Ronald Reagan. In this eulogy for Ronald Reagan written by and spoken by Margaret Thatcher, Margaret used several different rhetorical devices. Margaret Thatcher used this eulogy to show how great a man, president, and friend. Ronald Reagan was.

In lines 30-35 the use of the words "Others' and "He" shows a separation between him and the world. By repeating these words it shows how they contradict each other which in turn emphasizes what he did, showing that Reagan was a man of his own and no one was going to stand in his way of getting things done. Margret wanted to show how different Reagan was from everyone else because a lot of the time things gets lost in the news and social media. By doing so she showed how Reagan was a man for taking the initiative and making things better and to accomplish what needed to be done.  Furthermore proving how great a man Ronald Reagan was and what he did for his country without thinking of what he got out of it.

In lines 5-10 the use of the word "to" shows a emphasis of Reagan's many accomplishments and goals. By repeating this word it shows Margaret is specifically implying he was determined " to mend" "to restore" "to free" and "to accomplish" the things that must be done as a president. By emphasizing this word repeatedly goes to show how great a president Reagan was. Without Reagan being the great president he was many things would still need to be accomplished. Furthermore proving how great a president Ronald Reagan was and what he did for his country while making a huge impact at the same time.

In lines 16-25 Margaret uses the name "Ronnie" which shows how close they were a friends. By using this nickname emphasis they were close and not just as work partners like it states in lines 54-59. Margaret used this word and many others to make up her evidence on how close they were like "humor" "heart" "grace" all showing their friendship in ways many strive for. Ronald's and Margaret friendship was everything she says it is and its because the words she uses that further show that bond and strong friendship they laid in concrete. Furthermost proving how great a friend Ronald Reagan was and how selfless he was with her.
